Cold Calling Scares Me!
Met some great people over in Wigan last week at the DW Stadium. The staff at the stadium are first class and certainly deliver a premier performance (a pun for Monday morning!). They make everyone feel important which is what I believe to be one of the secrets of success - MMFI (Make me feel important)
What doesn't make me feel important is the thought of cold calling and I sometimes find other things to do. This happens to me once in a while, in fact it happens to me a lot, when I can’t be bothered or I am just not motivated to start cold calling.
I have found over the years that three little tips I learnt help me overcome my cold call reluctance.
- I give myself an objective for the calling session. It could be to achieve one new appointment or if I am not really motivated it could be to speak to one prospect.
- I start by doing little bits at a time – maybe 15 minutes or 10 calls
- After my 15 minutes or 10 calls I reward myself – could be a break, maybe read the paper, talk to an existing client
What I find that once I get started by doing a little bit of calling I start to enjoy the calls and then overachieve my initial objective.
The strangest thing that happens is that I become motivated and my call are better and I do my job better.
The tip is to do a little bit at a time!I
